Building on the success of Peter Honey's Manual of Self-assessment Questionnaires this action-oriented manual will help people to understand and evaluate their approach to work and the people they work with.  All the favourite questionnaires from the original have been retained and updated and eight new questionnaires have been added, covering critically important subjects such as delegation, managing change, valuing diversity and effective meetings.

The manual also boasts 21 new guides, to help trainers and consultants incorporate the questionnaires into the best possible skills training programmes. Each guide explains the purpose of each questionnaire, the target population, when and where to use it, and essential preparation.

Buyers Guide

What is the purpose of this manual?

To provide busy trainers and developers with ready-made, tried-and-tested materials that they can easily incorporate into their courses and programmes.

Is it for me?  What is the target population for this manual?

The manual is written for trainers, developers, facilitators, coaches and training consultants who want good quality materials that will help trainees - individually or in groups - improve their ‘soft-skills’ (i.e. the people-skills that really make a difference in any organisation).  Each questionnaire comes with a Trainer’s Guide giving tips on when and how to use the questionnaire, advice on essential preparation and so on.

Who wrote the manual?

Dr Peter Honey, a Chartered Psychologist and a trainer with many years experience at designing and delivering bespoke training programmes for a variety of organisations.  He is well-known as a creator of self-assessment questionnaires (his best known being the Learning Styles Questionnaire) and a keen advocate of their usefulness in encouraging people to take responsibility for their own development.  He believes that questionnaires provide an engaging starting point, but that it is important to follow them up with practical suggestions for development (these are included as handouts in the manual).

What difference will it make?

It will help people to become better at:

  • Being assertive in a variety of tricky situations
  • Managing their emotions so that they remain positive and effective even in the most trying circumstances
  • Making effective choices about which behaviour style to use to achieve win-win outcomes
  • Letting go and delegating
  • Participating in effective meetings
  • Continuously improving their work processes and taking changes in their stride
  • Facing up to and solving people-problems
  • Creating effective teams and being a team-player
  • Valuing diversity so that the differences between people become positive assets

In how many ways could I use the manual?

You could:

  • Choose the topics you want and incorporate the relevant questionnaires into your training programmes
  • Use the questionnaires and score-keys but ‘customise’ the development suggestions to meet your needs
  • Use the questionnaires as essential pre-work before people attend a training programme
  • Use the questionnaires as preparation for a one-to-one coaching session and/or before helping someone produce a personal development plan
  • Use the questionnaires as useful diagnostic tools to help identify training needs
  • Photocopy whichever parts of the manual you wanted to distribute as handouts
  • Use the topics and materials to create a series of stand-alone, one-hour training modules

So, why should I buy it?

Because it will give you reputable, tried-and-tested materials that you can photocopy and use over and over again.  Why reinvent wheels that Peter Honey has already invented for you?
